Frederick L. Ackerman, a Wabash brakeman, was killed at Homer about 7:20 Friday morning by falling between two cars in local freight train #71. Both legs were cut off above the knees. The unfortunate man never rallied from his injuries but expired shortly afterwards. He leaves a wife and two children residing at 1535 North Morgan street. Precise particulars of the accident were not received here thought it is said the accident happened while switching. Conductor Archie Schultz was in charge of the train. Poignant pathos is added to the accident by the fact that Ackerman had only been in the employment of the Wabash for about one week. Prior to that, he had ran a grocery store but was for many years, a conductor on the Vandalia out of here. He left that road following a small accident near Marion when the train of which he was in charge failed to put up a caution flag while occupying the main line. The body is to be brought here to the Moran undertaking establishment.
