DECATUR - Elvert "Ike" Adams, 90, transitioned into Eternity
on Sunday December 27, 2015 at McKinley Court.Ike was born
on August 20, 1925 in Brownsville, Tennessee the son of Allen
and Addie Whitelow Adams. He married Mary Frances Price on
December 24, 1948 and she preceded him in death. He then
married Erma Jean Thomas on June 6, 1971. Ike was an Army
veteran of World War II. He worked at Wagner Castings
Company for 44 years and was secretary of Local 728 for many
years. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church
and served as a Deacon for over 60 years, and also served in
many other capacities throughout the years. Ike was a
long-time member of the NAACP, serving as membership
chairman, and was also president from mid 1978-1984. Ike was
a member of the Elks Lodge in the early 50's, and was Exalted
Ruler for 3 years. He was also a member of John C. Ellis
Masonic Lodge since 1954, achieving the 32nd degree. He is survived by his wife Erma, son Elvert Jr., daughter Marilyn and husband Henry, 6 grandchildren, 6 bonus grandchildren, 36 bonus great and great great grandchildren, and many special relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters, and 5 brothers. Special thanks to the McKinley Court staff for their loving care, niece Clematene Manns for being there with us every step of the way, Dr. D. Patel, Dr. Atluri, and the Antioch family. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, January 1, 2016 at Main Street Church of the Living God with Masonic rites at 6:00 p.m. Homegoing Service will be Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery. "Doin' a hundred - can't afford to do less!"
