Marcus Duane Billingsley, 60, departed this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center with his family by his side. “Bird” as known by his family and close friends was born on April 27, 1959 in Decatur, Illinois to James and Anita E. (Kennedy) Billingsley. He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age at New Salem Baptist Church where he was baptized by the late Reverend Samuel W. Hale Sr. After graduating from MacArthur High School, he attended Southern Illinois University where he studied Business Management. Marcus later relocated to Des Moines, Iowa with Montgomery Ward Corporation where he lived for many years. He later moved back to Decatur, then Springfield where he was caretaker for a lifelong family friend, Carol A. Jones. Marcus was a warm-hearted, fun loving person who enjoyed traveling, playing darts, and spending time with family and friends. He touched the lives of many. Even in his passing, he wanted to help others and save lives by being an organ donor. He will truly be missed by all. He leaves not to mourn, but cherish his fond memories, his parents; brothers, John A. and James H. (Rosalind) both of Decatur, Keith L. of Honolulu, Hawaii and Jason L. (Monique) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister, Roxanne Reed of Indianapolis, Indiana; special aunt, Phyllis Slaughter and a host of nephew, nieces, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by both his paternal and maternal grandparents.
