James A. Bond 82, of Decatur passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. James was born on September 27, 1936 in Brownsville, Tennessee to James T and Susie Bond. At an early age, James accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Oakview Baptist Church in Brownsville, Tennessee. In the mid 1950’s, James moved from Brownsville, Tennessee to Decatur, Illinois. He began working at the Orlando Hotel and later began a 30-year long-term career at
Caterpillar Tractor Plant until he retired from the Decatur Plant. After retirement James started
working part-time under the CHELP program and enjoyed giving back to the community. He joined New
Salem Baptist Church where he was a long-term member and church van driver until his mobility skills
became progressively impaired. James was a charming and approachable person who enjoyed traveling
and visiting with family and friends. James leaves to cherish his loving memories, his spouse,
Minnie L. Bond of Decatur, Illinois; stepchildren: Yolanda Brooks-Jackson (Mark), of Nashville,
Tennessee, Aquanda Brooks, of Chicago, Oliver Brooks, of Dallas, Texas, Robert Gray (Pam), of Kansas
City, Missouri, Harvey Gray (Delores), of Blue, Island, Illinois and Denise Gray-Neal (Wallace), of
Decatur, Illinois; brothers, John and Barbara Bond, Robert T. Bond, Howard T and (Martha) Bond,
Marion and (Florine) Bond, all of Brownsville, Tennessee; sisters, Zelma Taylor, of Mansfield, Ohio,
Elma Rogers, of Brownsville, Tennessee, Mildred Johnson, of Muskegon, Michigan, Bettye (John)
Duckworth, of Brownsville, Tennessee and Rosetta (Rev. Willie Reed) of Gary, Indiana; special
nephew, Vernoll Bond of Decatur, along with a host of extended family and friends. James was
preceded in death are by his parents James T and Susie Bond; stepdaughter, Sandra Gray, as well as a
host of other beloved family members who have passed on. |
