Mr. Dennis was seventy-one years old, having been born Aug. 11, 1840. He has been a resident of Decatur nearly all of the time since 1856, a few years having been spent in Concordla, Kan., prier to 1893. At the latter point he was a contractor, street superintendent, and a member of the board of education. Since his return to Decatur in 1893 he has been retired from business, spending most of his time looking after his property. He was married in 1866 to Miss Emma Harris at Decatur, and of their children four survive: Miss Kate R Dennis, Miss Emma Dennis, Ray H. Dennis and Mrs. A. G. Early, all living in Decatur His wife died March 11, 1902. Three grandchildren are also living.

Haworth in 1879, and during the term of Mayor H. W. Waggoner in 1880. He was one of the charter members of the Goodman band, being one of the original fourteen who formed the Decatur Silver band In 186O.
