      Bernice E. (nee-Martin) Joyner, 87, formerly of Decatur, passed away at 7:20 pm June 14, 2017 surrounded by family and friends. Memorial service will be 3:30 pm Aug 4, 2017 at Greenwood Cemetery.

      Mrs. Joyner was born in Chicago IL, September 7, 1929. Daughter of Andrew Martin and Bernice Seller, Clarice Martin, Bernice was raised by her grandparents Henry and Gertrude Butts. She was the first baby accepted in the historical Rosenwald Building 47th and Michigan St. in Chicago. Bernice was a devoted Catholic and worshiped at St. Patricks Catholic Church for over 25 yrs. She retired from WAND television station in 1994. Bernice served in the United States Army, and earned the rank of Sergeant. She was the first woman of color to be in the Army Corp of Intelligence. Bernice Graduated from Dusauble High School in Chicago and Graduated from North Western College. Bernice was a very caring and given person. She was loved by so many and will be truly missed.

      She is survived by her Brothers Donald Martin and Prince Albert Martin, Children Andrew H. Joyner of Las Vegas, Mark E Joyner of Decatur IL, David M Joyner (Tawanna) Daughters Barbara C. Joyner of Las Vegas NV, Carolann Martin of Chicago, Nephews Christopher Martin, Carey Martin, Nicholas Fleming, Patrick Joyner, Anthony Joyner, Nieces Bridgid Steele, Karen Fayson, Michelle Martin, Former daughter in law Beverly A. Joyner, Grandchildren Elijah Cook, Uykay Rawls, Desiree Joyner, Kylen Rawls, Gabriella Joyner. Sister in laws Vondell Kennibrew-Bonne, Glodine Joyner. Cousin Richard Lynn Williams. Aunt Gertrude, a multitude of great grand children, and other cousins. She was preceded in death by her Grandparents, Parents, Husband Master Sgt. Robert L. Joyner Sr. Son Robert L Joyner Jr. and Brother in laws Clarence Joyner Sr., William Joyner, Nephews Clarence Joyner Jr. Preston Joyner, Vincent Joyner.
