* Rueben was friends and went to Kenyon College in Ohio with Rutherfor B. Hayes who later became president of the United States.
* 1855 - February 5. Appointed U. S. Postmaster, Ilahester Mills, Howard County, Maryland.
* It is believed that Reuben was the first college graduate in Macon County.
* Served as Deputy Circuit Clerk for 4 years under William Hammer.
* Served as Master of Chancery for Macon County 1864-1873.
* Became a lawyer.
* Mayor of Decatur - 1875-1876. Known for the decisive vote changing the current private library - "Ladies' Library Society" into a public library.
