Attorney Walter Mills died at Decatur Macon county hospital 1:15 pm Tuesday afternoon.Since he was taken to the hospital a week ago Sunday there was no hope for him to recover. Mr. Mills had been living in the hotel this winter and had been alone for 2 or 3 days. Friends became worried and found him in a helpless condition. The attending physician said he was suffering from acute nephritis. According to his friends Mr. Mills had been feeling badly for several days previous to his being found in the room and he had not been to his office. His wife and children were in Florida.they arrived during the week. Mr. Mills was a member of the law firm of Mills Brothers and Armstrong. Mills Brothers law firm is one of the old established law firms of Decatur it being formed in June 1880 by Isaac Mills and his
brother A. R. Mills. This firm continued until July 2, 1904 when Isaac r. Mills was killed in a
wreck on the Wabash. Walter Mills, son of Isaac took his fathers place in the firm at that time and continued that firm without a change in name. In January 1925, Thomas H.Armstrong who had been
associated with the firm since 1921 was made a member of the firm and the name changed to Mills
bros. and Armstrong. Walter Mills was a keen lawyer but was not a trial lawyer, being seldom in the court room. He was a member of the Decatur club and besides his friends there he had a circle of friends. He was married Oct,27, 1905 to Miss Martha Sutherland Nicoll of Lincoln. Beside his wife he leaves the following children, William Roger Mills, Mary Jane Mills, Martha Elizabeth Mills and Caroline Mills. Mr. Mills was 48 years old, a member of the Decatur Country club the Decatur Club and the University club of Chicago. In 1923 he was president of the Macon county Bar Association. Mr. Mills was born June 5, 1879 in Chicago and came to Decatur 18?0.He attended the Decatur schools and then the University of Michigan. He studied law in his fathers office and was admitted to the bar about the time of his fathers death. Beside the widow and children he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Edward Purcell of Taylorville, Mrs.D.R. Lehman of Hollywood,Calif. and Mrs. Dugold Gordonof Houston,Tex. also two half sisters, Jennie Mills of Fargo, N.D. and Mrs.Warren E. Hall of Wyandotte,Mich. Funeral arrangements have not been made but the family requests that no flowers be sent.
