      Virgie B. Palmer, 87, of Decatur departed this life on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Fairhavens Nursing Home. Virgie was born on March 27, 1929 in Brownsville, Tennessee the daughter of William Minor and Mattie (Nunn) Minor She united in Holy Matrimony to Marvin Louis Palmer, Sr. on December 28, 1946 and to this union 10 children were born. She was a Sunday School teacher as well as a faithful member in Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined St. Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she continued to work in the Sunday School as teacher and Sunday School Superintendent and singing in the Senior Choir. Virgie leaves not to mourn but to cherish her loving memories: sister, Cibra Fox of Decatur; brother, C.L. (Marie) Minor of Decatur; her six sons: Marvin Lewis (Edna) Palmer of Champaign, IL, Kenneth (Tanya) Palmer of Atlanta, GA, Phillip (Talricia) Palmer of Decatur, Jerome (Angela) Palmer of Bloomington, IL, Patrick Palmer of Boston, MA, Michael Anthony Palmer of Decatur; four daughters: Shirley Ann (Orange) Manns of Decatur, Marsha (John Earl) Wilder of Decatur, Mattie (Roger) Warfield of Decatur and Jennifer (Jesse) Franklin of Bloomington, IL, 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin L. Palmer, Sr., parents, grandparents, sisters: Gessana Hudson, Arglia Hurn, brothers: Nathaniel Minor and Guy Minor. Services Celebrating her Life will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. Peter A.M.E. Church with visitation one hour before service. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery. Professional Services entrusted to Walker Funeral Service. Obituary written by family members.
