DECATUR -- Sherley Mae Perkins (nee Odeneal), 86, passed away peacefully in Decatur, Illinois, on Thursday, January 25, 2018. She was born on January 21, 1932, to Pearl Odeneal and Emma (Nixon) Odeneal, at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur. Sherley was raised in Brownsville, Tennessee, where she attended Carver High School. Known for her cooking, Sherley retired as a cook from Decatur's Senior Nutrition Program in 1995. She was a member of Trinity CME Church in Decatur and served in the Missionary Society. Sherley leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion to nine
children: Nona Manns, Chicago, Illinois; Allin Bond (Rosalind), Decatur, Illinois; Penny Shaw, Lake Ridge, Virginia; Shirley Hardin (David), Decatur, Illinois; Watson Shaw, Decatur, Illinois; Sena Nelson, Springfield, Illinois; Corriece Perkins Gwynn (John), Bowie, Maryland; Jennifer Dorrough (Hollis), Chicago, Illinois; and Kelly Perkins, Lake Ridge, Virginia. She also leaves an extended legacy to 26 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Sherley leaves behind loving relationships with her sister-in-law, Gladys Odeneal; her very special brothers and sister, Louis T. Bond, Nelson Bond, and Edna White; and a host of relatives and friends. She is preceded in her homegoing by brothers and sisters Nelson J. Odeneal; Martha J. Pumphrey; Josephine Davis; and William A. Odeneal; by her husbands, Jessie Shaw and James Perkins; and by her special friend Jasper Terry. The homegoing service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Trinity CME Church, 444 South Webster Street, in Decatur. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Decatur. Arrangements are being handled by Moran & Goebel Funeral Home.
