HOW'D YOU GET THAT NAME?
William's mother, Anne Elisabeth, was the daughter of David Krone who owned the Macon House hotel in Decatur, Illinois. It was well known as good lodging, relatively near the courthouse, and widely
regarded for its cuisine. David's wife, Ruth Worley Krone, was well known as a good cook. Lawyers and judges riding the circuit used to stay there, and one of the frequent guests was Abraham Lincoln. There are other stories of Mr. Lincoln helping to haul in lumber for David's workshop and once getting the other lawyers (including Swett) to help him carry in a piano that was delivered to the hotel in the afternoon after court. Abraham Lincoln was fond of children, He would hold little Anne Elisabeth on his lap and play with her in the 1840's.
For this reason, and to show her fondness for her old friend, Anne Elisabeth named her second son - William Lincoln.
