      MRS. LYDIA SHEPHERD DIED AT 7:30 AM THURSDAY MORNING AT HER HOME AT 521 N. MERCER STREET, AGED 73 YEARS. HER DEATH WAS DUE TO A STROKE OF PARALYSIS WHICH CAME UPON HER SEVERAL DAYS AGO. SINCE THEN IT HAS BEEN KNOW THAT MRS. SHEPHERD COULD NOT RECOVER AND HER DEATH WAS NOT UNEXPECTED. MRS. SHEPHERD WAS BORN JAN 2, 1823 AT LEWISBURY, PA. AND WITH HER PARENTS, DAVID AND RUTH KRONE, CAME TO DECATUR AT THE AGE OF 11 YEARS. SHE WAS THE SECOND OF A FAMLY OF TWELVE CHILDREN. FOUR DIED IN INFANCY AND TWO OTHERS, MRS. O. E.SMITH AND MISS CHARLOTTE KRONE, HAVE DIED IN MORE RECENT YEARS. THOSE SURVIVING ARE MRS. A. L. STEWART OF OREANA, MRS. AUSTIN MCCLURE OF ST. JOSEPH,MO, AND MRS. GEORGE BRIGHT, MRS. D. S. SHELLABARGER AND N. L. KRONE OF DECATUR. MRS. SHEPHERD WAS THE WIDOW OF THE LATE HENRY SHEPHERD WHO DIED FEB, 3, 1883. THEY WERE MARRIED IN THIS CITY, MARCH 31, 1846 AND TO THEM WERE BORN FIVE CHILDEN, ONE OF WHOM DIED WHEN AN INFANT. ONE CHILD, MRS. J. H. SEARFOSS, DIED IN NOVEMBER 1879 AND ANOTHER BERTHA SHEPHERD DIED IN JANUARY 1896. THE SURVIVING CHILDEN ARE H. L. SHEPHERD OF INDIANAPOLIS, AND MRS. OVILLE EWING OF DECATUR.SHE ALSO LEAVES A GRANDDAUGHTER IN INDIANAPOLIS AND A GRANDSON, PERCY S. EWING OF DECATUR, BESIDES A NUMBER OF NIECES AND NEWPHEWS. IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE FUNERAL WILL BE HELD AT 5 PM FRIDAY FROM THE RESIDENCE.
